We are the stories we tell.
I have always loved a good story. As a child, my mother would read me a book before bed every night, her plans to put me to sleep futile every single time. I always wanted her to read more and I almost always picked the longest ones I could find.
I started writing at a really young age, my first book, The Red Dog and Me, still sits laminated on my shelf along with favorite authors like David Sedaris, Joan Didion, Gloria Anzaldúa, Junot Diaz, Ottessa Moshfegh.
In high school, I was sitting outside the guidance counselor's office waiting to talk to her about my future, when a kid, who was pretty well known as a delinquent sat down next to me. He told me that he had read my story in the school newspaper and not only did he like it, but he also related to it, it had made him feel that he wasn’t as alone in the world as he thought. It was then when I realized how impactful words can truly be--here was this guy who I thought I had nothing in common with connecting with my work, connecting in essence to me.
Writing has the power to move people, to shape beliefs, realities, desires. It has the power to create positive change, to shift consciousness, to heal. My goal as a writer has been and always will be to help people grow, to help them navigate the world, to help them as they work each day to fully realize their potential. Throughout my career in the digital marketing space, I have continually tried to align my goals with companies who have the same mission--regardless of the product or service offered.
Meaning and intention are everything.
Stories make us.
I’d love to hear yours and how we can work together to get the word(s) out. Drop me a line sometime.
